Write your soap opera sequence

The soap opera sequence is a five-email welcome series that tells a story across five days. Each email ends with a reason to open the next one, and the pitch comes only after the reader knows you. Describe what you sell below and get the plan and your first email.

The plan for every email, plus email 1 written in full. About 30 seconds. No sign-up.

The five emails

  • Set the stage: welcome them, say what the next days will bring, and start a story you'll finish tomorrow.
  • High drama: the backstory, the low point, told with real stakes and a cliffhanger.
  • Epiphany: what you realized, why it works where the usual approaches fail, and the product as the result.
  • Hidden benefits: the benefits people haven't thought of yet, each tied to something real in your product.
  • Urgency and the ask: the decision, with a real reason to act now, or the honest cost of waiting.

Why story emails can still land in Promotions

A good story with a pushy ending still reads like an ad: a discount countdown, three button-style links, an "Act now!" in the subject. The story only helps if the ask sounds like you, too. Inbox Tuner writes the ask the way you'd say it to one person, with one link in a normal sentence.

Where the term comes from

Russell Brunson described the soap opera sequence in his book DotCom Secrets. This page describes it in our own words. Inbox Tuner is not affiliated with Russell Brunson or ClickFunnels.
